A Quarter Century of Bold Innovation The Engineering Department of Huisman Czech Republic Celebrates 25 Years
Sviadnov, April 24, 2025 – The engineering department is the heart of innovation at Huisman Czech Republic in Sviadnov. What started as a small team has grown into a respected group of dozens of top-tier specialists designing unique equipment that is shipped all over the world—from gigantic cranes and mobile drilling rigs to high-tech attractions for the entertainment industry. Over its more than 25 years of existence, the Czech engineering team has become an indispensable part of key projects across the entire Huisman Group.
The engineering department of Huisman Czech Republic was established in 2000 with the aim of expanding production capacity with in-house development. Today, the Czech team in Sviadnov can handle the complete design and implementation of massive technological systems—from the initial concept to final testing. The engineering team includes structural analysts, mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic engineers, CAD specialists, control systems programmers, and technical documentation experts.
“Our engineers and technicians have long been among the global elite, earning trust even in the largest and most demanding projects. Designing a crane that stands 200 meters tall means processing thousands of production components while also ensuring the entire colossus can be transported from our Central European facilities to its destination,” says Robert Muroň, Engineering Manager, Huisman Czech Republic.
Top 5 Projects the Engineering Department Has Contributed To:
- BMS Crane – The largest standalone crane ever manufactured by Huisman Czech Republic. Measuring 225 meters, it is used for installing wind turbines.
- Floating Cranes for the Sleipnir Vessel – With a lifting capacity of 2x 10,000 tons, they rank among the largest in the world. Czech engineers handled both the structural and electrical design.
- Gripper MCPG – A revolutionary system for installing offshore wind turbine foundations. It features X and Y axis motion compensation, significantly improving installation accuracy.
- North Star – A spectacular observation capsule with a 41-meter-long arm designed for the world’s largest cruise ships. It lifts passengers up to 90 meters above sea level. The Czech team contributed to both the design and safety systems.
- Well Intervention Systems – Design and manufacture of a unique 600-ton piece of equipment for maintaining subsea wells.
The value of having in-house development capabilities is also emphasized by the company’s leadership. “Thanks to our in-house engineering capacity, we can take on even the most complex technical challenges. Our team of designers has in-depth knowledge of both the technology and manufacturing processes, allowing us to deliver top-quality, reliable solutions from concept through to final testing. I believe our engineers can also inspire young talent looking for meaningful work in high-value-added manufacturing,” says Karel Pavlíček, Managing Director, Huisman Czech Republic.
